Title of Game: Left 4 Dead 2
Types of Music Used:
This game contains no music within it but you are able to make custom sounds yourself for your actual game play.
Sound Effects Used:
There are plenty of sound effects used during this game. There are at least 50 different responses from each playable character such as “hey whats your name” or “Screw this!”. There are also different sound effects for weapons whether it is from a shotgun an axe or a frying pan. There are plenty of other sound effects used like the elevator music or the sound of zombies and witches. More of the sound effects can be found here: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/525375
With the absense of music the game relies alot on the sound effects which has been perfectly done because they are using original sounds most likely done in a recording studio to make it stand alone from other pre-recorded sounds that alot of companies tend to use in order to save money and time
What do the music and effects add:
The fact that there is no music gives the game an extra scare factor meaning that every time you are wandering through the streets in the game and you hear a loud scream from a witch or a groan from a zombie it gets you ready and startled trying to figure out which way the hoards are coming from which can drive you insane sometimes. This game even makes you scared of something simple like hitting a car because once you do its alarm goes off which is like a beacon for any of the creatures around you and its almost like your heart stops when you see them running towards you. Overall this games sound brings both horror and humor because of the characters responses and the noise from strange objects you use to fend off enemies but also the game mostly keeps you tense because the fact if you hear anything in the game it is usually something trying to kill you or something that might get you killed.
Below there are two videos that show what i am trying to say one is the official trailer which unlike the gameplay has music that starts with a solo banjo then it starts to gradually get faster until it falls quiet but then the music changes dramatically to full blown electric guitar solo in order to suit the tone and pace the video is going for. Once again the music slows down and is much quieter during the part when they are just talking that is until there is an air strike then once again here comes the fast paced heavy music.
