sourcing sound
Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound effects. Foley artists match live sound effects with the action of the picture. The sound effects are laid "manually" and not cut in with film.
Foleying is a means of supplying the subtle sounds that production mikes often miss maybe due to the fact that there is some
interference. The rustling of someone walking into say a bush gives a scene a touch of realism that would take more time and would be more difficult to provide using other effects methods. Foleying is used a lot in movies and TV shows during post production so that they can create a sound without having the actual object in real life like breaking glass or a gunshot. A Foley pit allows the sound designers to record samples or parts used in post-production
Sound libraries: A stock sound effect is a pre-recorded sound effect created for or contained within a sound effect library for the intended reuse within entertainment productions; as opposed to creating a new, unique sound effect. We mostly see this being used in tv-shows particulary those that have a tight production schedule or those that dont have it in their budget to rent out a recording studio in order to create their own original sounds or music. A few examples of pre-recorded sounds would be the sound of a screaming woman which is used primarily when that actor or actress is not within view so to give the illusion that she let out that burst of fear, The other often used recordings would mainly be the broken glass recording which can be used in a scene where a glass vase has broke or someone has been thrown threw the window. So many different sounds are used over and over that many people can recognize the sound in question with ease such as the innocent child laugh that has been in over eleven tv shows and this is not including movies so it does not go unnoticed by listners. It's not that the sound may seem similar. It's more that the sound is exactly the same without any changes done to it at all to even make the tiniest bit of difference. And unlike Stock Footage, which is usually only used in one show, these sounds have reached multiple shows, and have even managed to make thier way into other medias such as video games.
Original Development of sound are sounds created in a studio from other objects. A record company or movie create an original sound because they constructed it themselves which is new that is why it’s called an "original sound". With new instruments and technolgies we are able to construct original sounds ourselves for example you can see in the image below that a man is simply using two halves of a cocanaut to make "clip clip" sounds at moments where the horse is moving its feet/hooves along the ground which can later be syncronized more carefully with the horses riding using technology and this sound can later be used but changed in way that makes it its own unique sound such as filtering the sound which is eliminating most of the central frequencies of a signal, what remains of the orignal music will be there but unrecognisable to most people. Back when this was in the early stages of being developed its name was originally "Musique concrete".
